Bass Fishing Lake Ouachita
Diamond Lakes Fishing Report
07/21/2010

Lake Ouachita:  As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake's elevation was 575.06 MSL (Flood pool - 578 MSL).

Larry Hurley from Poorman's Guide Service said bass are biting well on Ol' Monster worms fished at 21 feet.

(Updated 7/14/2010) Mountain Harbor Resort said the lake is clear and at 575.80 feet. The water temperature is between 82 and 86 degrees. Largemouths are biting well on Texas-rigged worms, football jigs and creature baits. The top-water action has slowed but Zara spooks and Boy Howdies will produce bites. Walleye are biting excellently on spoons. Bream are biting excellently on crickets or worms fished in 10 to 25 feet of water. Crappie are fair but can be caught near brush in 20 to 30 feet of water. Minnows or crappie grubs are the best bait, and Tennessee shad is the best color for artificial baits. Catfishing is good with jugs and trotlines baited with cut bait and live bait.

We went early last Friday and managed to catch one keeper and two little bass.  We used 8" plum worms and fished in 18 - 22 feet of water.  Water temp is still in the upper 80's and I continue to hear good reports about night fishing.

DeGray Lake:  As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake's elevation was 403.41 feet MSL (Flood pool - 408 MSL).

Local angler George Graves said the lake is clear throughout and the surface temperature is in the upper 80s. Crappie fishing is fair with most being caught near fish attractors or other forms of cover. Fishing a 1/16 ounce Tennessee Shad or Arkansas Shad 2 inch grub has been working well. Caddo Drive and Point 15 have been the best areas, and the best time to fish for crappie is early morning. There have not been many reports on bass lately, but the best bet is looking for surface activity early in the morning. Throw a top-water lure, swimbait, or Texas or Carolina rigged worm or lizard down the steep side of the main lake points or humps in 10 to 30 feet of water. Hybrids are in their late summer pattern and are biting well. The depth of the fishing could range between 50 and 100 feet of water. Fish a heavy spoon through the fish. The best areas in the lower lake are Iron Mountain, Spillway, DeRoche Ridge and the islands across from the state park. Early morning will give you the best bite. Bream are fair and most are being caught around 20 feet deep. Fish redworms and crickets in almost any cove and you should get some hits from bream. Catfishing has been good at night in the Brushy Creek area on trotlines place in 50 to 70 feet of water. Small bream and big minnows have been the best bait.

Lake Greeson:   As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake's elevation was 545.71 MSL (Flood pool - 548 MSL).

Lakeside Grocery and Bait (870-398-5304) said the water conditions are normal and the surface temperature is about 86 degrees. Bream are biting well on crickets fished in 5 to 10 feet of water. Bass are biting on jigs, plastics and deep diving crankbaits fished in 16 to 18 feet of water. Catfish are slow but some are being caught on jugs baited with minnows and bream.

Lake Hamilton:

Trader Bill's Outdoor Sports had no report.

Lake Catherine:

Shane Goodner, owner of Catch'em All Guide Service, said the water temperature below Carpenter Dam is at 55 degrees during times of generation. The water is clear from the dam to the bridge. Rainbows are still present in this area but are difficult to catch. Fishing nightcrawlers and red worms off the bottom with a marshmallow have been working to bring in some trout. Snails and crawfish are prime sources of food for these fish during the summer. Wax and meal worms are also good baits to use. You must be patient this time of year because there will be less bites. Hybrid and white bass are running together and feeding on threadfin shad, which migrate in and out of the tailrace. The most productive fishing method has been casting jerk baits into feeding fish or concentrating on visible structures. During times of current flow, live minnows tightlined or under a bobber will draw strikes.
